    Whole-body Vibration Perception Thresholds

    Date: 4 Nov 2011 (Fri)

    Abstract

There are a lot of potential sources of disturbing vibration in buildings including blasting, road and rail traffic, aircraft and industrial machinery. The type of sources and many other factors will determine the nature of vibration. Subject reaction to the vibration will depend on its magnitude relative to the vibration perception threshold. In this presentation, we will introduce a series of laboratory experiments concerned with perception thresholds for whole-body vibration. The nature of absolute perception thresholds is discussed and a method of determining vibration thresholds, based on signal detection theory, is proposed.
