Overview

Course Web System (CWS) is a project funded by the Teaching Development Grant of the School of Business & Management. It begins with a pilot project conducted by a faculty member of the Department of Accounting in the year 1996 - 1997. The enhanced version demonstrated here is developed with the help of the supervision provided by the Internet Program Office of the CCST. The main objective of the system is to provide an Internet-based tool for faculty and supporting staff with minimal computer experience to organize course materials and distribute them on Internet in an efficient and manageable way. It also contains modules to store answers to frequently asked questions and to provide on-line multiple choice tests to students and keep track of their performance. For more details about the project and the system, please refer to a paper entitled "CWS: A Course Web Site Creation and Maintenance Tool for Improving Teaching and Learning Efficiency" presented in the Quality in Teaching & Learning: A Celebration of Best Practices in Hong Kong Higher Education Conference held in 10-12 December 1998.

Getting Started

Basically, CWS has 2 different views, one for students to access the system and the other view for instructors to mange and administrate the course. For demonstration purpose, users can gain access to this system with full priviledge and please feel free to try out different features in the system.

• Student View - Students will access the Course Web System through this view to view the course information, read the FAQ, practise on the Multiple Choice Questions, etc.
• Instructor View - Instructors or teaching assistants can make use of this view to manage and administrate the system. (For demonstration purpose, please use the password "cwsadmin" to gain access.)

Other Information

This system has been already announced, and some courses have been already adopted this system. Therefore you can further experience the actual use of CWS by visiting those currently in-used systems. Furthermore, some documents about CWS are available on the web. It would be helpful to spend some time to read through them or make a copy of them as reference.
